DIAMOND JUBILEE

England is a land of pomp and circumstance, crumpets, and rainy days. We feel like we have been unofficial citizens since we spent a semester in London so many years ago. In celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, we selected a few of her most amazing jewels to showcase. Beautiful gemstones, glistening diamonds, an amazing crown - oh to be queen. Wouldn't it be fun to be locked up in the Tower of London with all these showstoppers? Keep Calm and Jewel On!

GENERATIONS TO COME

Jewelry often reminds one of a special person, time, place or memory. SUWA jewelers, since 1908, has prided themselves on creating fine jewelry that will please generations to come. Just take a look at this insanely beautiful ring containing 23 prong-set marquise-cut diamonds. Its delicate lace-like pattern woven by marquise diamonds produce a gorgeous appearance. This incredibly impressive ring displays the true charm of marquise cut, and one that I would love to receive now to pass down to my children. Hint, hint hubby!

CANNES CAN

The last week of May means Memorial Day weekend and the end of the Cannes Film Festival. And while we love lounging around at the beach in flip flops, we truly can't stop talking about the gorgeous Chopard jewels that the women of Cannes wore throughout the festival. Chopard has been the official sponsor of our favorite film festival for the past 15 years. Throughout their tenure, ingenues and legends have donned the famed jeweler. This year Reese Witherspoon looked ravishing in diamonds at the Mud Premiere, Lana del Rey was jaw dropping in a a Chopard necklace at the Trophee Chopard. Jessica Chastain was all smiles in Chopard diamond earrings at the Madagascar 3 premiere and Bernice Bejo was ravishing at the opening night dinner. Cannes belongs to Chopard and it is easy to see why. Au revoir.

FLOWER POWER

The Prada rose jewelry is fresh, current, and a little out of our price range. So, when we came across these earrings from Asos, we did a second take. The pink, green, and blue color combination is fresh and unexpected. It reminds us of a the perfect summer day. The pink flower is oversized and opulent. These earrings are big both in scale and style. And for about $26 - we are going to rock these all summer long.

NEVER BUY WHEN YOU CAN RENT

Rent the Runway is HUGE. Recently I was at a wedding and two of my friends rented their flawless looks. So I obviously had to see what all the hoopla is about. Some of the dresses are amazing but my heart skips a beat when we start talking about jewelry. Renting jewelry...hmmm. Been there, done that. But wait. This is different because the pieces are cool, young, amazing. You can rent Dannijo, Tom Binns, Elizabeth Cole, Kenneth Jay Lane and more. The starting price for the accessories is $10. And while you only get to wear the piece for four days at least you can keep updating your look without the commitment. We will save that for the diamonds.

GOING DIZZY

Leather and laser - a fabulous combination. We are going gaga over these Daniella Zagnolli bracelets. Made of genuine leather and laser-cut out to perfection, these bracelets are fierce. They are truly works of art. We were lucky enough to see the new collection this week and to say we want them all is an understatement. Most of these pieces have a magnetic closure so they are easy to put on and take off yourself (which definitely comes in handy). We love the boho vibe paired with a maxi dress for the summer.

BEST BAUBLES: MET GALA

The women in yellow at last night's Met Gala got it right. January Jones's vintage turquoise and gold necklace from Cartier is cool, interesting, and we wish we had our own. Mixing the bright yellow hue (Versace) with turquoise looks so modern.

Solange Knowles was a ray of sunshine on the carpet. Her yellow dress by Rachel Roy fit her perfectly. The natural hair and killer accessories made her stand out in a sea of interesting looks.

STEALING OUR HEART

The only thing we love more than jewelry is a great deal. And these The 2 Bandits chokers and cuffs are definitely a great find. They can be dressed up or down, worn to a ho down or a chic cocktail party. The pieces strike the perfect balance between rustic and refined; exactly what designer Tamar Wider was going for. They are made of pewter and either silver or 22k gold plating. In both metals, these pieces are going to be our go to all summer long.

EIGHT IS ENOUGH

Wouldn't you love to feel better? Stronger? More Lovable? Well, you can use the energy from certain gemstones to enhance your quality of life. Eight Energies jewelry taps consciously into our eight energies (love, success, happiness, well-being, beauty, inspiration, intuition, and strength) to help us become empowered so that we can make our dreams become a reality. The designer, Verena-Katharina Adina Rivers lives, works, designs, and produces her pieces in Bali. So besides being beautiful, these baubles are produced sustainably, in a far off magical world. I am feeling better already.

DANA DARE YOU

If you couldn't tell, we have been coveting necklaces all season. Long, short, bold, and delicate; all we want are beautiful, interesting pieces around our necks. That is why we stopped in our tracks when we saw this piece by Dana Kellin. This three-tiered necklace is a-maz-ing! The diamond and gold oval links are everything! Then, the surprise of having another two layers - genius! It is a mix of earthiness and glamour. This piece will look perfect with a very low cut dress, shirt, bathing suit - well anything. Not too showy and totally unique.

FASHION INSIDER INTRODUCTION

Thanks to an incredible fashion insider's addicting facebook and twitter feed  - Melissa Meyers of PageDaily - we were introduced to nathan&moe jewelry by Nancy Liebowitz. The designer mixes trendy styles to create classy and timeless designs. Named after her two grandfathers (just love that sentimental element), the line has worked on major private label projects with some of the best in the business - such as Stella&Dot and Dylan's Candy Bar. We particularly love this pink drusy necklace. At 30" long, the natural drusy stone with topaz Swarovski beads on robles wood is our fashionable favorite design of the day.

BONJOUR BONHEUR

My favorite places contain shiny, pretty things. Things that make my heart skip a beat. Why should my favorite online stores be any different? My newest go-to url is www.bonheurmaison.com. The site offers high style jewelry for fashion women. This Buddah Luv bracelet caught my eye. It is one of a kind and made of lapis and white drzy. By itself, it is interesting but paired with my other go-to bracelets, it makes my collection complete. New jewelers and items will be added all the time. So say bonjour to Bonheur

IN SYNA

After meeting Dharmesh & Namrata, designers of Syna Jewels, we feel in love with more than just their jewels. The couple is kind, responsible, and have an eye for style. The duo named their company - Syna - which means Together. “The idea behind the name is our desire to partner with people, be it our clients, vendors, jewelers, craftsmen or employees. We believe people can achieve great things by respecting each other and pooling their talents and resources. The possibilities are endless when we work together.” Not only are they adorable, but their jewels are amazing. At JD we love a fabulous tassel. This gold and rubellite version on a black silk cord is chic, fashionable, and should be worn everyday. Get the collection at Neiman Marcus.

Between the Kids' Choice Awards and the CMAs - there were a lot of fashion hits and misses this weekend. Yet, our favorite look was shocking - GREEN. We can't get enough of the neon trend right now. DIAMOND LOOK

As the Lola James website reads, "Everyone NEEDS this bracelet". Our dear friend adorned 3 of them layered at dinner in Greenwich last Saturday night. And let me tell you, no one would believe these aren't real diamonds. Totally lightweight, this thin double wrap stretch bracelet with tiny rhinestone crystals is one size fits all - and fits fantastically. Lola James believes this bauble is perfect to mix with your boho chic bracelets, and we agree. But, honestly, rock it solo and you have a stylish diamond look - glitzy and glamorous.

WAITING FOR TOM

I am a girl who loves diamonds, gold, and gemstones. But my jewelry box is not all rubies and emeralds. Lately, I have been flocking to Tom Binns for some fun, funky, costume jewelry. These over the top pieces are bold and definitely have a sense of humor. This Pinata Bracelet is featured today on Moda Operandi. While I would hate to have to wait until August for this bauble, I know that it will be worth the wait.

BRINGING VINTAGE BACK

We are finally getting a close up look at Jessica Biel's engagement ring. It appears to be a bold yet old-fashion style, which equals a true stunner. Today, many jewelers are creating modern vintage diamond rings that appeal to young women. And, when celebrities such as Biel gravitate to these styles, the trend is justified and sales take off. Thanks Justin - for bringing back sexy...and classic design.

BAUBLE TRENDS: OSCARS

We wait all year for the Oscars. The gowns, the glamour, the diamonds...For as long as we can remember the red carpet has been dominated by earrings. Big, small, diamonds and gemstones the ears have gotten all the love. Not this year. We were thrilled to see the return of the diamond necklace. Cameron Diaz kept it simple with an emerald-cut diamond line necklace by Tiffany & Co. Michelle Williams is picture perfect wearing a vintage looking round diamond necklace by Fred Leighton for Forevermark. Penelope Cruz was sparkling in Chopard. She looked like a pin-up from the 1920s - pure glamour and sophistication. Natalie Portman's Harry Winston diamond necklace was more intricate than the rest. The big bauble definitely made heads turn. Can't wait to see more necklaces on the red carpet going forward.

LOTUS BLOSSOMS

Today's gorgeous weather gave us the perfect opportunity to feature a bauble we've fallen in love with - vasa new york's vintage lotus pendant. Inspired by lotus flower petals and vintage lace - the motif comes in various gold metals, encrusted with diamonds, and also a chic bangle. We met vasa's talented designer Jeenie this past fall in her incredibly elegant and adorable showroom on West 10th Street in NYC. A true treasure chest of the most stylish and delightful jewels, Jeenie's collection is perfection...and we loved trying on everything in her store. The 'it' piece for spring has bloomed!

COLETTE COOL

Some people just have it, a certain knack for something incredible. Colette is one of those people. She has been successfully designing jewelry since 13. We were lucky enough to have some time with her and asked her about her inspirations, stones, and favorite things.

It is unbelievable that you have been designing jewelry since the age of 13. How has your style evolved?

My style has evolved in many different ways. I have grown up just a bit since the age of 13! I’m now well versed in design; I have GIA training and I’ve studied graphic design. Both of these have given me the essential tools I need to  create jewelry using the right processes. Also, since my business has grown with time, I’ve been fortunate enough to work with rare stones and high carat gold. I’ve traveled the world and have been exposed to so many different cultures which give me endless sources of inspiration, but more than anything these experiences give me knowledge and have helped me grow as a designer. The more I learn, the more I evolve and I am learning something new every day.

Who do you see wearing your jewelry?

I see women who really appreciate beautiful stones and color wearing my jewelry. She is fashion forward, ladylike and sophisticated but she always makes a statement. She likes to have fun with her accessories – especially her jewelry. It’s a way of expressing herself to the world. She can layer rose gold chains, Tahitian pearls and black diamonds with the star cage pendant from my Galaxia collection and understand that she is mixing classic elements with something really edgy and artistic. She isn’t afraid to pile on the jewelry with a white tee shirt and denim but also knows how it will make her sparkle that much more for her black tie moments. She is effortlessly cool.

How has living and working in Mexico City shaped your jewelry aesthetic?

I have always been living between Mexico and France. The aesthetic of my pieces are very influenced by both places. Mexico is a very vibrant country and it has inspired me to use bold stones which are very saturated in color. I would say the French part of me lends a kind of sophistication, femininity and elegance to my work. The combination of the two cultures  are unexpected and produce very unique work.

So many of your pieces are inspired by nature, what are some of your other inspirations?

Nature is essentially 95 percent of my inspiration but I’m also a total romantic and appreciate anything symbolic of love. So, you will see touches of bows, hearts and even daggers in my collection…always need a bit of edge!

Do you have a favorite stone or material to work with?  If so, what is it and why?

My favorite material to work with is gold, mostly 18k rose and 18k blackened, and my favorite stones are Emerald, Tanzanite, Apatite, Paraiba tourmaline, moonstone and of course diamonds.

What is your best selling item?

Pieces from my Galaxia collection are best sellers. They are all inspired by the cosmos!

What is your favorite item that you have designed?

One of my favorite pieces is a big bug made of 18k white gold, diamonds and labradorite that I hand carved myself. It’s a real conversation piece – I wear it all the time and people stop me all over the world to talk about it. It’s a bug in it’s most beautiful, romantic form.

What jewels do you always wear? Both of your designs and others.

Most of the time I wear my designs just because they are a little piece of my soul , but I love to buy other designer’s jewelry if it really strikes a chord with me. There are so many unique talents out there. I wear pieces from all of my collections – I change it up everyday based on my mood. Sometimes layers of galaxia. Other times the big bug with layers of diamonds. Always tons of rings – the more the merrier is my philosophy!

Prices range from $1,000 - $25,000 and can be purchased at Fragments.
